AIRFREIGHT FORUM: THE NEXT 5 YEARS..... |
Some of the major airlines will be revealing their visions
for Airfreight Cargo developments in the next five years.
What impact will the A380 have on cargo? How will
the terminals be operating? Will there be as many or
more players in the market? Is demand likely to outweigh
capacity on Imports? These and other questions will
be addressed in what should be an interesting and
interactive secession. |

The Y Generation – Managing the New Breed of Employees |
Karen Schmidt, Management Advisor and Author
"Young people today, what’s wrong with them?" I think
you’ll find this question has been asked by older people
since the dawn of time. The truth is there’s nothing
wrong with them. They’re just a product of the political,
economic, social and technological conditions created by
the generations before them.
Learn more about the new breed of employees, their
perspectives on work and what you need to do as a
manger to get the most out of them - for however long
they stay with your organisation!
You will learn . . .
- The views of Generation X and Generation Y on the workplace created by earlier generations
- Why they don’t like turning up on time, following the rules or filling out timesheets
- Overcoming the stereotypes - yours and theirs
- How to use their career mobility to benefit your organisation
- Why the real issue is getting them to get along with each other

Taking Care of the Staff You Have
Dr Trent Watson, Managing Director, Clued on Food (partner of the Ethos Health Network)
The health and safety of its workforce is a priority for
any workplace as its survival is dependent upon it. The
influences of poor workforce health can be many and varied,
including impacts upon productivity, morale, absenteeism,
staff retention rates, incidents and accidents and lost
time to injury. Combine this with an ageing workforce, skills
shortage and increasing population prevalence of mental
illness, obesity and diabetes. It is no wonder workplaces
are considering addressing the health and wellness of
their workforce in the hope that this will improve some of
these key performance indicators.
We know that individuals are fundamentally motivated to
make change in pursuit of their own underlying personal
needs. These needs can also benefit business. Key
aspects and experience’s of co-ordinating such programs
in the workplace will be presented, including outcomes
of a variety of programs that have been delivered with
success.

WILL DECENTRALISATION REINVIGORATE EFFICIENCIES?
MODERATOR: Thomas Hansen, Rohlig Australia
|
Whilst our panel for this session will discuss some of the
fine details affecting forwarders in the sea environment,
our keynote speakers will address the question as to whether the
major changes affecting NSW Ports will improve the sea
cargo transport chain for both NSW and Australia.
We will hear from Newcastle Port Corporation regarding
their major refocus as a container handling port and also
Port Kembla Port Corporation who have recently taken
all of the car traffic away from Sydney Harbour. Will
decentralisation of the major throughput of Sydney Ports
be effective, or will it slow down the transit times for the
service providers and customers?
Speakers:
- Priscilla Radice, Marketing Manager, Newcastle Port Corporation
- Dom Figliomeni, Chief Executive Officer, Port Kembla Port Corporation
A specially selected panel will then discuss some of the
points raised during the presentations, as well as vital
issues affecting the Seafreight forwarding industry in
Australia.
Panel Members:
- Priscilla Radice, Marketing Manager, Newcastle Port Corporation
- Dom Figliomeni, Chief Executive Officer, Port Kembla Port Corporation
- Phil Rosser, Senior Manager Trade Development, Sydney Ports Corporation
- Jacqui McCombie, Managing Director, Globelink Internationa

SUPPLY CHAIN SECURITY: THE ENDLESS ENIGMA ?
Chris O’Keeffe, Director Supply Chain Security, Australian Customs Service
|
Consistent with international developments, Australian
Customs has been exploring the development of a program
for ‘supply chain security’ for Australia. The project was
based on the World Customs Organisation (WCO)
Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) recommendations.
The challenges have included ensuring that the project
will blend with existing local security programs (such as
RACA and AACA) and to ensure that legitimate trade is
not unduly obstructed. In late 2007, pilot programs were
concluded and the results are currently being examined.
These results will lead to phase II and the development
of an operational framework, which will then include the
involvement of Industry stakeholders.
Speakers:
- How will such a scheme operate and what might be the effect on cargo transit times?
- Is this more regulation and another burden for the Forwarders and Brokers?
- When can we expect to see this program implemented?
This session will explore these questions with the intended
outcome that Customs will provide solutions in order to
remove some of the mystery of Supply Chain Security !

Freight Forwarding is a Mug’s Game
Do you ever question
