Dear Member,NSW Industrial Relations Commission rule on transport safetyThe Industrial Relations Commission has ruled employers should be held accountable for the safe movement of freight on the state's roads. The decision came after the NSW branch of the TWU applied for a new award and contract determination with mutual responsibility for road safety. The union's national spokesman, Tony Sheldon, said the decision by the full bench of the commission was the first of its kind in the state. He said transport companies were now legally accountable for unsafe schedules and deadlines and unsafe rates of pay. Respondents to the case included the New South Wales Road Transport Association. This may have an impact on road transport haulage costs due to new scheduling requirements for transport operators. Thank you and kind regards Brian Lovell Chief Executive Officer Suite 403, Level 3 |
