Customs Press Release on Compensation Claim Payments

Dear {Firstname},

Members would have received the Customs notice giving details of compensation claims paid for direct losses, suffered as a result of the implementation of CMR on October 12th 2005.

Michael Carmody, Customs CEO, has stated that Customs is continuing to review the remaining claims received including those incorporating staff related costs such as staff overtime.

As previously advised, AFIF and the CBFCA engaged a legal representative to develop an appropriate form of claim, acceptable to Customs, which members will be able to use to lodge these types of claims.

We are in the process of finalising these arrangements with Customs and will announce details in the very near future.

Please note that Claims in relation to these 'consequential losses' will need to be very well documented in order to be acceptable.
