AUSTRALIAN CARBON PRICING MECHANISM – BRINGING FORWARD THE START OF EMISSIONS TRADING
Draft legislation to start emissions trading on 1 July 2014 has been released for public comment. The draft bills make amendments to the Clean Energy Act 2011, the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units Act 2011, the Fuel Tax Act 2006, and the Excise Tariff Act 1921. The changes are predominantly procedural and technical in nature. The draft bills and explanatory material are available on the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education’s website.
Interested parties may make submissions on the draft legislation by 5pm on Thursday, 15 August 2013.
Where possible, submissions should be lodged electronically, preferably in Microsoft Word or other text based formats via architecture.team@climatechange.gov.au. Further information on the process for submissions is available at http://www.climatechange.gov.au.
