Training and Funding
Dear All,

As members would know, AFIF provide government accredited regulatory training in certain subjects including: Dangerous Goods Acceptance procedures, air cargo security and air cargo Load Distribution and Restraint. In addition we provide valuable basic training in import and export, air and sea cargo operational procedures. Beyond these vocational training courses, we have partnered with two Registered Training Organisations (RTO'S) as per details below, who can deliver nationally accredited training in a wide variety of specific and generic business skills. Of particular benefit is that there are still very attractive funding opportunities available for member companies to be able to affordably up skill their workforce. Please read on:

National Workforce Development Fund

As part of its Skills Connect initiative, the Federal Government is providing funding through the National Workforce Development Fund (NWDF) to assist enterprises with their workforce development.

As a part of this initiative, the Australian Federation of International Forwarders (AFIF) members can identify current and future business and workforce development needs and apply for funding to support the training of new and existing workers. Underpinning this process, it is important to note the following:
  • funding is based on a co-contribution model, with up to 67% of your training costs met - further details are available by clicking here
  • qualifications covered under the fund include Certificate III, IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Vocational Graduate Certificate and Vocational Graduate Diploma and must be delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Registered Training Organisations

It is our experience that most members have complex training needs requiring a mix of technical training in areas affecting customs brokers / international freight forwarding and operational / leadership skills across management business sales, customer contact, warehousing, WHS etc.

By necessity, members have traditionally sourced their training from multiple RTOs due to the diverse spread of their needs.

The good news is that members can continue their existing relationships with established RTOs and / or access services from AFIF's partnered Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) being myfreightcareer and Real Institute.

myfreightcareeer

myfreightcareer is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and a Group Training Company (GTC) established 13 years ago specifically to deliver training to the Global Logistics, Freight Forwarding, Customs Broking, Shipping and Aviation industries. They have recruited and placed hundreds of trainees with numerous freight and logistics companies and trained thousands of existing workers in every Australian state. Hundreds of our future Supervisors and Managers have graduated or are in the process of completing a myfreightcareer Traineeship.

myfreightcareer, a winner of and twice finalist in the prestigious International Logistics Training Provider of the Year, offers Certificate III, IV and Diploma courses in Freight Forwarding, Logistics and Warehouse Operations as well as delivering targeted "Skill Set" training to existing workers and new entrants, that is eligible for assistance from the National Workforce Development Fund (NWDF)

In addition to training that can be funded via the NWDF, the myfreightcareer Traineeship program is also eligible for state and federal government funding.

The Customs Broking division of myfreightcareer currently delivers the Customs Brokers Course, Customs Broker CPD training and DAFF NCCC Accreditation training and will soon announce the date of their first Customs Broker National Examination.

Real Institute

Real Institute is a leading national RTO with an aim of providing inspiration and learning to every Australian.

Real Institute differentiate themselves from competitors by providing a "disruptive" approach to their training. I am currently completing a course of study through Real Institute and appreciate the term in context of "positive disruption". Real Institute do not settle for the way things are ... they continually improve, uncover, challenge and integrate learning outcomes in the areas of management, customer contact, sales warehousing, logistics and work health & safety (WHS).

To give you an appreciation of our focus and passion for quality / lasting training, it is well worthwhile to watch a short video clip from the Real Institute safety ambassador and former Australian Para Olympian, Kahi Puru.

Real Institute is also one of a handful of national training providers who can access each State funding pool as well as available Federal funding. This means there are considerable financial incentives available across the country. Additional and significant financial payroll tax benefits also exist for training new employees.

Real Institute has received extensive recognition for outstanding achievement:
  • 2009 - Best Education and Training Provider at the Sydney Business Awards
  • 2010 - runners up in the Best Education and Training Provider
  • 2011 & 2012 - recognised as on the of the 100 BRW Fast Starters
  • 2012 - awarded the Entrepreneurial Business of the year in the Sydney Business Awards
  • 2012 - ranked 20th in the BRW FAST 100 LIST
  • 2013 - Learn X Impact Awards - Gold Winner
