Dear All,
John Law of Down Under Legal, as a member of the AFIF Customs Affairs Sub-Committee, attended a meeting with Customs on 03rd June at which AFIF was updated on the current status of the Low Value Threshold Project.
Customs have been tasked with looking at new approaches for the handling and administration of low value imports including options for revenue collection.
The current Government is seeking to make a decision on the appropriateness of the current $1000 Low Value Import Threshold by November this year.
We expect Customs to provide details of some of the proposed alternate models in the next few days to allow industry to comment on the potential cost and operational impacts.
These alternative models will potentially have a major impact on Members and we will therefore pass these on to Members as soon as they are made available.
Thanks and regards,
