Customs and AusCheck Legislation Amendment
Dear All,

Members should be aware that the Customs and AusCheck Legislation Amendment (Organised Crime and Other Measures) Act 2013 received 'Royal Assent' on 28 May 2013.

This Act included changes to the Customs Act designed to strengthen the supply chain against criminal infiltration.

The changes to the Customs Act will significantly impact Customs Broker Licence holders, Cargo Terminals Operators (CTO's) and cargo handlers.

The changes will commence on a date to be proclaimed within the next 6 months. The exception will be offences for misusing information held by Customs which commenced on 29 May 2013.

Customs have released the following fact sheets that provide details of the changes contained in the Act.

Members should not hesitate to refer their questions or concerns on this or any other Customs compliance or operational issues to me or anyone else on the AFIF Customs Sub Committee.

Thanks and regards,
