New Biosecurity Bill

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is developing new biosecurity legislation on behalf of the Australian Government. In a press release by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, said the new Act will replace legislation that was first written in 1908. The consultation period for the Biosecurity Bill has commenced and is due to expire 10th August at this stage. Chapters 3, 5, 7, 9&10 plus the Inspector General of Biosecurity Bill have been release so far. The remaining chapters will be released when ready.
 
The Public Consultation schedule provides AFIF members with details on where and when to attend briefing sessions and the Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement provides explanatory information on the legislation and comments from industry are also invited.
