ICON Redevelopment Project
The
Australian Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) system will replace the
current ICON system which houses the biosecurity conditions relating to the
importation of goods to Australia. BICON will make it easier for anyone around
the world to browse Australia’s import conditions and will improve the quality
and integrity of those conditions. The redeveloped system will be more
efficient for both internal and external users and includes the benefit of a
streamlined import permit management process.
We
need a dynamic and flexible biosecurity system that can identify and address
the challenges of rapidly changing global developments and BICON will provide
an import conditions database that will underpin a smarter future biosecurity
system.
In
the months leading up to rollout, people will have an opportunity to
participate in various activities planned to help users become familiar with
the system. These activities include training and support products for both
internal and external users; and road shows for industry as well as DAFF
biosecurity staff. We will let you know more about upcoming activities as more
information becomes available. Regular communication channels will be utilised
to provide detailed information about these upcoming activities.
An
‘industry and community working group’, a ‘third party software developer
working group’ and ‘program working group’ will be taking part in end user
testing over the coming months to ensure the system meets the needs of internal
and external stakeholders of DAFF.
Software
release 3.1 has recently been accepted, which leaves the final software release
to be accepted before the system rolls out. As the project moves to the final
stages, further updates about the progress of BICON will be regularly published
here.
