Port Botany Landside Improvement Strategy Update – March 2011

On 28 February 2011, Sydney Ports went live with the Port Botany Landside Improvement Strategy (PBLIS) Operational Performance Measures, switching on reciprocal financial penalties for stevedores and truck carriers. This commenced following completion of a month-long final PBLIS trial. During the trial period, Sydney Ports contacted all registered truck carriers to gain feedback and answer queries prior to the introduction of the PBLIS reforms.

Trade Update – Port Botany Container Trade Up In February

Sydney Ports Chief Executive Officer Grant Gilfillan announced that total container volume through Port Botany in February 2011 was 151,100 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units), an increase of almost 3 per cent compared with February 2010.

March Cruise Update

Sydney is nearing the end of its busiest cruise season on record, with 150 cruise ships and 300,000 passengers set to have visited the port in the 2010/11 season.

And a new milestone came in March this year, with 19 cruise visits —up from 12 visits in March 2009.

Sydney Ports – Hosting Our Meat Exporters at Port Botany

Sydney Ports’ container trade includes the export of primary produce such as meat, much of which is produced and processed throughout regional NSW.

Banksia Street Pedestrian Overpass Project

Sydney Ports is constructing a pedestrian bridge over the Port Botany freight rail line at Banksia Street to ensure the safety of Botany residents and the local community.

This project forms part of the requirements of the planning approval for the Port Botany Container Terminal Expansion Project.

NSW Ports Diesel Retrofit program

Free steel catalyst and muffler

Road transport operators who regularly access Port Botany, the Port of Newcastle, Port Kembla and the Cooks River Rail Yard and have a diesel truck that was manufactured before 1 January 2003 may qualify for a free steel catalyst and muffler as part of the NSW Road and Traffic Authority’s (RTA) NSW Ports Diesel Retrofit Program.
