Qantas Freight Update on Schedule Changes due to
Chilean Ash

The following update on the operational impact of the Chilean ash cloud may be of interest to you, your teams, members and customers. Please distribute as appropriate.

Following a further assessment of local ash plumes the following changes have been made to our domestic, international and freighter operations for Wednesday 22 June:

  • Services to and from Sydney will resume at 2pm today 22 JUN
  • Services to and from Melbourne will resume at 11am today 22 JUN
  • Services to and from Canberra will resume at 1pm today 22 JUN
  • Services to and from Hobart are cancelled for today 22 JUN
  • Services to and from New Zealand including our B767 trans-tasman freighter operations are suspended for today 22 JUN pending further ash cloud forecasts
  • Some international services in the air and scheduled to arrive in affected ports prior to the opening times above will be diverted to BNE before continuing to arrive once destination airports open.
  • Operations to/from Australian domestic and international ports not mentioned above continue as normal

Freight on hand in BNE due rerouting of disrupted aircraft is being booked on rescheduled services or trucked to destination. Availability of aircraft to provide additional freight uplift is also being assessed. Additional man power is being deployed in Sydney and Melbourne to minimise the impact of expected freight volumes on recommencement of operations. A further assessment of the operating conditions will be made later this afternoon 22 JUN and any further changes advised.
