Update on the Transport of Lithium Batteries

There has been much discussion recently between relevant international authorities, including ICAO and IATA, on the subject of the safe transport by air of Lithium Batteries.

Given the current focus on Lithium batteries by regulatory authorities around the world, the IATA head of Cargo Safety Standards in Geneva has released the attached ICAO Bulletin and whilst it is directed at ICAO member States, IATA believe that through its member airlines as well as freight forwarders, everyone has a part to play in helping to make sure that all shippers of Lithium batteries are aware of, and comply with, the regulatory requirements applicable to lithium batteries.

The ICAO bulletin includes a link to guidance material that ICAO has on its website. IATA also has a guidance document. The link to that is: http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/cargo/dangerous_goods/Pages/lithium_batteries.aspx

Please advise all concerned

Thank you
