Australian Customs and
Border Protection Industrial Action Update

The following notice has been issued by Australian Customs advising that the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) have applied to Fair Work Australia for permission to conduct a ballot among their members in the ACBPS for the purpose of seeking their support of industrial action.

The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) have applied to Fair Work Australia for permission to conduct a ballot among their members in the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service. The ballot will be conducted through the Australian Electoral Commission. The purpose is to seek member endorsement of industrial action and to define what form any endorsed industrial action will take.

If the members endorse undertaking Protected Industrial action, the earliest possible date this could occur would be Wednesday September 14, 2011.

Until the CPSU conduct and communicate the ballot, there can be no agreed industrial action. Regardless of the outcome, the Cargo Division of Australian Customs and Border Protection Service will be striving to maintain critical services and minimise disruption to our operations and industry partners.

We will keep you informed of developments in this area.
