OPENING SPEAKER
Given the ongoing uncertainty of the political landscape and the current election commitments and subsequent period of 'settling in' that follows an election, the BAFA organising committee decided not to seek to invite a Minister as the opening speaker. To ensure a quality program is delivered to members, the committee have now confirmed a speaker of excellent reputation and recognition.
ANH DO
As a talented writer, actor, producer and comedian, Anh Do went from being a starving refugee who arrived in Australia as a boat person at the age of three to a successful commercial lawyer to one of Australia's best loved entertainers. His legal background provides him with a unique understanding of the corporate world.
Anh is co-producer of the film 'The Finished People', described by Margaret Pomeranz as "one of the best Australian films of the year". The film was officially selected for the Montreal International Film Festival and was released to rave reviews in Australia.
An accomplished actor, Anh was a regular on Channel 9's 'Don't Blame Me' and has appeared in guest roles on Seachange, All Saints and Pizza.
Anh's awards and nominations include:
- Winner - Sydney Comedian of the Year (1999)
- Winner - National Green Faces Comedy Competition (2000)
- Winner - NSW Triple J Raw Comedy Competition (1999)
- Winner - Co-writer of 'Best Short Film 2001', Palm Springs Film Festival, USA
- Winner - Co-writer of 'Best Screenplay 2001', St Kilda Film Festival, Victoria
- Nominee for 'Best Short Film 2001' and for 'Best Screenplay 2001', AFI Awards
In 1999 Anh Do completed degrees in Business and in Law at the University of Technology, Sydney.
We look forward to welcoming Anh Do and his presentation, where he will focus on the BAFA 2010 conference theme of 'New Horizons' and relate our theme to 'the journey of his life'. He will share his story, including the challenges, obstacles, twists and turns, triumphs, tears and of course, the laughter.
