FIATA World Congress 2010 in Bangkok FIATA
President Jean-Claude Delen wishes to inform our members as follows on the situation
of the FIATA World Congress 2010 to be held on 4 – 8 October, 2010 in
Bangkok, Thailand: The
occurrences during the past weeks in Bangkok – with much distress and sorrow
for the local population – has induced the FIATA Presidency to carry out an
appraisal of the situation regarding the carrying out of our World Congress
2010. We have established many internal and external contacts to elaborate an
extensive basis for an evaluation of the situation. It goes without saying
that the safety and security of the participants at our event has been
considered as a top priority. But also FIATA’s position as a totally neutral
political NGO has been part of the decision finding. After
receipt of all statements and the recent positive developments in Bangkok the
FIATA Presidency has now decided to continue with the preparation for the
congress 2010 in Bangkok as foreseen. We are confident that the local
problems will now be tackled and solved in a democratic and peaceful manner,
which will ease the return to a normal situation. This decision is also
supported by our Association member TIFFA who have worked so hard over the
last couple of years to make this congress a great success. Obviously also in
future the situation in Bangkok will carefully be examined to take the
necessary steps if required. We
are convinced that our members will share this decision and will now start to
register for the congress so that we reach the expected high number of
participants. As a further concession it has also been decided to extend the
deadline for Early Bird registration from 30 June to 31 July, 2010. Looking
forward to seeing many of you in Bangkok, I remain, Jean-Claude
