Australian Customs and Border Protection Service are currently undertaking a review of Tariff Precedents. The main principles behind the design of the new system are as follows :

• the advice must be freely and readily available;
• there is clear policy and guidelines on the use of the advice;
• the relevancy, accuracy and quality of the advice is paramount; and
• Customs and Border Protection and users have clear avenues of communication.

A Notice of Intent regarding the removal and replacement of precedent and an example of a replacement precedent has been provided by Australian Customs for your information.
