Truck Congestion Alert (Third Update)
Thursday 24 September 2009
Dear {Firstname},

Following yesterday’s closure of Port Botany due to adverse weather conditions, this afternoon, Sydney Port Corporation met with Patrick representatives to address the congestion outside the Patrick terminal at Port Botany which has adversely affected traffic in the area.

Sydney Ports would like to advise truck operators not to travel to the Patrick terminal unless they have a current timeslot. This will assist in improving congestion outside the Patrick terminal.

Sydney Ports has been advised by Patrick that they have all available resources on road delivery. Patrick have also have placed an extra crane gang on to the road and will waive storage for carriers having problems staying in the rank. In addition Patrick have informed Sydney Ports, in light of yesterday’s closure, they have allocated additional slots from 1500 pm yesterday through to Saturday.

Sydney Ports have sent extra resources to assist the Traffic Marshall in managing traffic at the roundabout on Penrhyn Road outside the Patrick terminal. Sydney Ports request that truck operators support the Truck Marshall and his directions in managing the current congestion.

There will be additional checking of the trucks against corresponding VBS slots to ensure that the trucks that are in the precinct align with the correct time zone.

Sydney Ports have also contacted the local police to alert them to the congestion and are now on site as a service to the truck operators and the local community.

Sydney Ports will continue to liaise with the ATA and Patrick to reduce the congestion outside the Patrick terminal.
