Lloyd’s List DCN Australian Shipping and Transport Awards

The 14th annual awards were held on Thursday 26 November.  This is a great opportunity for the industry elite to recognise achievement and extraordinary performances within the shipping and transport sectors.

 

Container throughput hits record high of 176,900 TEU for October 2009

Sydney Ports’ container throughput hit a record high in October 2009 with 176,900 TEUs, an increase of 5.8 per cent on the same period last year.  Our largest trading partner - China contributed to 62 per cent of the total container trade growth in October 2009.

 

 

New Minister for Ports and Waterways

On 16 November 2009, the Premier, Nathan Rees appointed the Hon Paul McLeay as Minister for Ports and Waterways following the recent resignation of Mr Joe Tripodi.

 

Sydney Ports plays central role in WA oil spill

Sydney Ports personnel have played a central role in dealing with the West Atlas incident off the West Australian coast.  Early in November the company responsible for the rig PTTEP, performed a successful “kill” to stop the oil leaking from the well.

In 2010, Sydney Ports will be celebrating 10 years as a Major Sponsor of Sydney Ports Jazz on the Water concert and Best Dressed Vessels Competition.  These events are now major attractions on Sydney Harbour on Australia Day.
