Warning re Fraudulent Use of ComPay
Dear {Firstname},

AFIF has received advice of fraudulent activity in regard to the use of ComPay and we urge members to be familiar with the Terms and Conditions of the use of the ComPay and in fact all Credit Card transactions. As with any credit card merchant facility the credit card holder has up to 90 days to dispute a credit card transaction.

There is allegedly a scam whereby payments are made to a nominated party in ComPay using a stolen credit card for a bogus invoice. The perpetrators then contact the payee a few days later claiming the payment was in error and asking for a refund to be made to a nominated account.

This information was provided by an unfortunate Forwarder to serve as a warning for others. We encourage you to read and ensure all staff are familiar with the security notices sent out by ComPay and other credit card providers, to protect yourself and your businesses.

After contacting 1 - Stop (as the retail provider of ComPay) for comment, we provide the following additional information:

All efforts have been made by ComPay to warn members of potential security risks including 2 broadcast notifications, plus a security warning on the ComPay home page. ComPay is used by the majority of forwarders and Brokers and was designed for the freight & logistics industry. It has proven to be very reliable and effective.

At all times ComPay places any potential security risks at the highest priority and we endeavour to act quickly and inform users accordingly. In addition, the ComPay system monitors credit card payments and emails and will alert the receiver to be cautious and to check if the customer is legitimate if something appears suspicious ( eg: sent from a yahoo, or hotmail address):
  1. Know who your customer is. If you don't you are well within your rights to ask for proof of identity.
  2. If a refund is to be made, make sure you refund back to the original credit card and
    not do a bank transfer.

Please advise all relevant persons.
