FEATURED SESSION:

In each of our regular Bulletins leading up to AFIF 2009, we will feature a different session from the Conference. This week we look at the Customs session being presented by Michael Carmody, CEO of the newly named: Customs and Border Protection Service, Australia. There are some important changes that will affect Forwarders and Brokers. Be sure to hear first hand and have the chance to ask questions ! The content of the session has since been altered slightly from the printed version of the Brochure...... read on:

Friday May 7th
Australian Customs - An expanded role and some familiar issues
Time: 10.15 - 11.00

Presenter: Michael Carmody, CEO, Customs and Border Protection Service, Australia

In a move to widen and strengthen their role, Australian Customs has a new name and revised purpose.
As part of their new role a major focus will be on tackling the growing and most serious issue of people smuggling.
Customs will also provide an update on the impact of the new U.S. laws on cargo screening to be introduced progressively during 2009 and 2010.

  • How will the Customs transition occur and what effects will the increased focus on people smuggling have on cargo reporters and brokers?
  • What new requirements will Australian forwarders have to implement to meet the stringent new U.S. cargo screening laws ?
  • Other developments with potential impacts for Australian forwarders.

For further information, don't hesitate to contact the conference secretariat on email: afifconference@willorganise.com.au or by phone on 02 4973 6573.

We look forward to seeing you in Hobart and hope you can take some time to explore the beautiful city !
