Revised AQIS requirements for
Plywood and Veneer Packaging

AQIS have posted a set of FAQ’s on their website to clarify the position re the requirement to declare plywood as timber. Please refer link to relevant section in AQIS website:
http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/import/general-info/documentary-requirements

Most importantly, plywood is not considered a timber for the purposes of the packing declaration. This brings the Australian requirements in line with the attached 2009 version of ISPM 15 (relevant section highlighted) - click here to view.

It should be noted, however, that AQIS will monitor the risks associated with plywood/veneer packing through Import Clearance Effectiveness surveys and may periodically increase surveillance for packing to verify that risks are adequately being managed.
