Following our notification recently of the cessation of the MLH / Vero Marine Cargo Insurance service for members, we have been sourcing a suitable replacement and as a valued added benefit to members, we are delighted to announce that we have negotiated a new AFIF members Cargo Insurance facility with AIG (Australia) Insurance through Australian Risk Applications Pty Ltd ('ARA'), designed primarily for SME's.

This facility allows members the opportunity to respond effectively and competitively to their shippers requirements to insure the goods in transit. We have further discussed the potential benefits to the forwarder in handling insured cargo, as opposed to uninsured cargo and how this can effectively reduce your own costs (ie freight forwarding liability premiums and excess).

The above facility is offered to members on the proviso that ARA is their appointed Broker (Marine Insurances and or Liability covers, whichever is applicable) and that the necessary ASIC/FSRA requirements are met adequately. In this regard, ARA will appoint the Forwarder as an "authorised representative" of the ARA Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL).

In addition, ARA will also offer members Freight Forwarder's Liability Cover too and we suggest that you discuss this opportunity with them directly. As part of their service, ARA will offer AFIF members a complimentary market exercise. Over the last 3-5 years there have been developments in the Liability Insurance market i.e.: new policies, new incentives, new insurers, existing insurers with new pricing offers to SME sized Forwarder' and ARA, as an independent Marine & Liability specialist broker, will be able to guide you in the best way to manage this policy and cost to your business. Another area of value to members is the role ARA will play in assisting members with legal liability claims (a complicated process at the best of times).
