NSW Minister Joe Tripodi Announces
Major Sydney Port Reform

The NSW Government today announced it's official response to the IPART enquiry into the landside interface at Port Botany.

In a range of landmark decisions the Government has also underpinned the proposed reforms to be coordinated by industry under the auspices of Sydney Ports.

Most importantly, the much maligned IPART proposal of a 'Dutch-Auction' system of slot-bidding is not part of the agenda. However a congestion surcharge which has worked elsewhere is proposed in order to improve efficiency by spreading the working day and avoid peaks and troughs.

There will also be a more focused effort towards rail usage and more truck-cams to improve traffic flows and management.

Whilst there has not been much time to analyse the potential impact since the announcements earlier today, AFIF representatives believe that the proposals are extremely encouraging with a view to long-term productivity improvements at the Port.
