Virgin Blue Intl Makes Request for Capacity to / from USA

We have received the following advice from DOTARS regarding an application made by Virgin Blue International Airlines (VBIA) for capacity on the Australia - USA route to commence 10 x weekly B777 services from November 2008

Notification of Applications:

The Commission has received an application from Virgin Blue International Airlines (ACN 36 090 670 965) (VBIA) seeking an allocation of capacity on the South Pacific route under the Australia - United States air services agreements. VBIA plans to operate ten B777-300 services per week from November 2008. To this end it has applied for capacity consistent with the terms of the Australia - United States air transport arrangements. Other applications for the capacity are invited. The closing date for notice of intention to make an application is COB 13 July 2007.

After notification of intention, applicants have a further five working days to make a full application unless additional time is sought and agreed to by the Commission. If no notice of intention is received by COB 13 July 2007, the Commission may proceed to decide the matters under consideration as soon as practicable after that date.

Notification of Decisions and Determinations

  • On 13 June 2007 the Delegate of the Commission issued Determination [2007] IASC 103 allocating 835 seats of capacity per week on the China route.
  • On the 13 June 2007 the Delegate of the Commission issued Decision [2007] IASC 209 varying Determinations [2001] IASC 123 and [2006] IASC 110 enabling an expansion of Qantas' existing code share arrangements with Malev Hungarian Airlines on the Thailand route.
