Progress Towards a Single Industry Body

Dear Firstname,

As members would recall, AFIF and the CBFCA reached agreement to pursue the idea of a Single Industry Body and as part of this process a sub committee was formed in August 2006 comprising of three Directors from each Board. This committee have over the past few months been looking at the process required to amalgamate the two organisations and the various matters involved in such a process.

Some time ago AFIF members gave the Board its mandate to pursue this activity in an effort to identify ways in which such an organisation would remove duplication in certain activities, currently conducted by both organisations but also as to a wider involvement that could be achieved in areas that affect the industry. In addition, an amalgamation would provide full coverage nationwide for all of our members and their various activities in all modes of an international forwarding and relevant domestic interface services.

The CBFCA have decided to provide detailed scenarios and survey their members to ensure that the Single Industry Body is truly what their members wish for and also to identify what their views are in regard to various matters including regional representation, governance and administration.

We believe that our mandate from members is still clear and that is to pursue with the CBFCA the concept of a Single Industry Body and to formulate a strategy and a plan as to how such a body would be formed and what it would constitute. Once this is done we shall present the plans to the membership and this would be voted on at a General Meetings of the Association at the appropriate time.

In the meantime, we invite members to comment on this issue and provide any feedback to ensure that you continue to support our development work in this regard.

Yours faithfully,

Fritz Heinzmann
