IAG / Aust Customs Cargo Advice Notice: 2007/06

Freight Forwarder Indicator (FFI) Process Clarification

Dear,

We have now received the latest Australian Customs Cargo Advice Notice: 2007 /06

The incorrect use of the ''FFI' has created implications for downstream users of the ICS. Reporters of a high-level cargo report may not know if a particular freight forwarder involved will lodge a lower level bill for the cargo. If the FFI is checked in this situation, cargo may be held by Customs in anticipation of receiving a cargo report that will not be submitted.

Some areas of industry are currently of the understanding that Customs requires high-level reporters to check the FFI whenever there is a freight forwarder involved with cargo. This also has the potential to impede cargo movement.

AFIF as part of the Industry / Customs Action Group (IAG)have been working on this issue to develop a process to clarify correct use of the FFI check-box. Customs has issued the attached ACCA notice and procedural statement. We hope this assists in achieving the necessary outcome.

For further information reply to the contact details contained in the Advice. For enquiries regarding the Integrated Cargo System please contact cargosupport@customs.gov.au or alternatively call 1300 558 099.
